Complete Guide to Handling Diesel Generator Sets

Date:2025-08-01

As a key power equipment, diesel generator sets have high value and large volume and weight. The standardized operation of the handling process directly affects the safety and service life of the equipment. Improper handling can easily lead to equipment damage, performance degradation, and even safety accidents. To ensure that the handling process is foolproof, please pay attention to the following core points:

Professional lifting with stability as the top priority: Priority should be given to using the lifting points (lifting ears/lifting holes) designed by the equipment manufacturer, and lifting belts or steel cables with a bearing capacity far exceeding the total weight of the unit should be selected. When lifting, it is necessary to maintain the balance of the center of gravity of the unit, and it is strictly prohibited to pull or collide forcefully.

Reliable fixation to prevent slipping: When the unit is placed on a transport vehicle (forklift, flatbed truck), high-strength nylon straps or chains must be used in conjunction with a rope tensioner to firmly bind the unit chassis to the transport platform, fix it at multiple angles, and completely eliminate the risk of displacement and overturning during transportation.

Strictly prevent excessive tilting: During handling and transportation, the tilting angle of the unit must not exceed the value specified in the technical manual (usually less than 15-30 degrees). Excessive tilting can cause oil and coolant to flow back, which may seriously damage internal components of the engine such as the crankshaft and connecting rod.

Comprehensive protection, details win: Wrap and protect the exposed precision components (such as control screens, sensor interfaces, output terminals, etc.) and vulnerable paint surfaces of the unit in advance. Pay attention to avoiding rough and bumpy roads during transportation and drive steadily.

Safe and regulated handling is the cornerstone of reliable equipment operation! For large or special units (such as units above 300 kW and silent units), it is strongly recommended to entrust a handling service provider with professional qualifications and experience to ensure that your valuable assets arrive at the destination unscathed.
