Small class of knowledge | The greater the load on the diesel generator set, the higher the fuel consumption?

For those who use diesel generator sets, sometimes the cost of purchasing a machine is far less than the cost of subsequent use, especially diesel consumption. So running diesel generator sets, fuel economy is the key.

Based on the perception of the car engine, many people think that the fuel consumption of the unit is in direct proportion to the load, and the larger the load, the more the consumption. Is it really the truth?

Usually, the fuel consumption of the unit is generally related to two aspects. One is the fuel consumption rate of the unit itself, and usually there is no greater change; the other is the size of the load. For the purpose of fuel economy, many people control the load within the standard range of rated load, but the fuel consumption is still not ideal. Why?

Normally, the same type of diesel generator sets of the same brand, the load is greater, the fuel consumption is larger,.And the load is smaller, the relative fuel consumption is also smaller,.This theory is established. However, in special circumstances, it has to be different.

The actual situation is that the fuel consumption is the lowest when the load is 80% of the Rated Power. If the load of the diesel generator set is 80% of the rated rated power, one liter of diesel emits 3.5 kWh; if the load is increased, the fuel consumption will increase, which is often said to be proportional to the load of the diesel generator set.

However, when the load is less than 20% rated power, it will have an impact on the diesel generator set. Not only will the unit's fuel consumption increase significantly, but it will even damage the generator set.

Therefore, the fuel consumption of diesel generator sets is not absolutely proportional to the load. To reduce the fuel consumption of diesel generator sets, the unit can be operated at about 80% of the rated power. Long-term low-load operation will increase fuel consumption and even damage the generator unit.
