Core maintenance practice for efficient heat dissipation of generator sets

Date:2025-06-27

Summer is approaching, please keep the heat dissipation strategy for diesel generator sets safe!

A few simple tricks to keep your generator cool all summer

The summer solstice has passed, and many parts of the country have entered a sustained high temperature mode. The scorching summer not only tests people's tolerance, but also poses a severe challenge to the heat dissipation performance of diesel generator sets. How to ensure efficient and stable operation of generator sets in high temperature environments? The following key measures cannot be ignored.

Ensure efficient operation of the cooling system

Keeping the cooling system clean is the foundation for improving heat dissipation efficiency. The soil, oil stains, and deformed heat sinks on the outside of the radiator can seriously affect the heat dissipation effect and need to be cleaned and repaired in a timely manner. The coolant level should always be maintained between the high and low marks of the expansion tank. Too low will result in insufficient cooling, while too high will affect normal expansion.

It is crucial to regularly check the tension of the fan belt. Loose belts can reduce the speed of the water pump and affect the circulation of coolant; If the belt is too tight, it will accelerate the wear of the water pump bearing. Remember to maintain moderate belt tension and avoid oil contamination.

Strengthen the ventilation management of the computer room

A good ventilation environment is the key guarantee for heat dissipation. It is recommended to install ventilation fans to enhance air convection and ensure smooth air flow in the computer room. Pay special attention to maintaining smooth ventilation and smoke exhaust in the water tank, and keep the ground clean and free of oil stains.

The ventilation system should adopt a direct in and direct out method to prevent the hot air emitted by the generator set from re entering the machine room through the air inlet. For outdoor generator sets, they should be placed in a cool and shady place as much as possible. If necessary, sun visors can be installed, but it is necessary to ensure that the exhaust holes are not blocked.

Optimize operation and respond to special environments

Strictly avoid overloading operation. Long term overload work can cause a decrease in the cooling effect of the coolant, leading to an abnormal increase in the temperature of the unit. At the same time, appropriate heat dissipation methods should be selected based on the water source situation: water cooling should be used when the water source is sufficient; When the water source is insufficient but the inlet temperature is suitable, choose air cooling; Artificial refrigeration solutions can be considered for special high-temperature environments.

For extreme environments exceeding 40 ℃, a dedicated cooling water tank for 50 ℃ or 55 ℃ can be selected, or a "four in one" cooling water tank that integrates cylinder body cooling, turbocharger intercooler, fuel cooling, and lubricating oil cooling can be used. Insulate and wrap the heating components such as smoke exhaust pipes and corrugated vibration dampers, and install the battery at a low temperature position in the intake duct.

As the temperature continues to rise, checking and optimizing the cooling system of the generator set in advance will provide a solid guarantee for the safety of your equipment during the summer. Good heat dissipation management can not only extend the service life of the unit, but also ensure stable and reliable operation during peak electricity consumption periods.
